The KATALOX LIGHT is a filter bed used to remove iron and manganese from water in high concentrations.

It is based on zeolites with a catalytic coating of manganese dioxide (MnO2). Thanks to its composition, this product exerts an oxidizing action on iron and manganese in drinking water so that they precipitate inside the filter, obtaining treated water with iron and manganese values below the required limits. 

This filtering product is not consumed during the iron and manganese reduction process in the deferrizer filter, which gives it a long useful life. For filter maintenance, the filter can be cleaned by means of automatic backwashing in a simple and wear-free way.

Advantages of using KATALOX LIGHT

Due to its catalytic coating and its manufacturing process, KATALOX has unique advantages over conventional iron removal media such as pyrolusite or BIRM

It has the highest iron, manganese and turbidity absorption capacity available on the market.
Its working life is around 10 years, with no need for replacement or regeneration.
Maintenance and electricity costs are very low as it works like any conventional activated carbon or sand filtration system.
It can work at flow rates up to 75% higher, which makes the size of the filtration system smaller and therefore the maintenance and space requirements are lower.

 

Amount to be used for water deferrification

Each 650 kg can treat 10 m3/h of water with dissolved iron concentrations exceeding the discharge limit of 0.2 ppm.

Thanks to these performances it is possible to reduce the filter bed volume and the filter size up to 200% compared to other filter beds such as pyrolusite.

These loading values will depend directly on the concentrations of iron or manganese present in the well water, and it may be necessary to increase the kilograms of loading in cases where the concentration of these compounds is higher than 5-10 ppm.

 

Operating parameters of water deferrizer medium

The recommended working conditions of the KATALOX are:

  • PH of inlet water 7 for 90-95% iron and manganese removal efficiency.
  • Inlet water PH 7.5 for an iron and manganese removal efficiency of 95-99%.
  • Washing speed 25-35 m/h
  • Iron removal range 0-50 ppm
  • Manganese removal range 0-20 ppm
  • Filtration degree 2 to 3 microns
